It’s easy to pick up a chip in your windscreen.
Although it is legal to drive your car so long as the chip in your windscreen is not directly in your line of vision and under a certain size, once your windscreen has been chipped it needs repairing as soon as possible.
A stone chip in your windscreen will only get worse the longer you leave it.
Most cracked windscreens just start as a small chip but often the chip becomes a crack when the windscreen expands and contracts due to changes in temperature.
Once this happens the crack will spread due to those same temperature changes and your windscreen has become unsafe, making your car a danger to drive (many people do not know that the windscreen accounts for approximately 30% of the cars structural strength).
If you have fully comprehensive insurance there is a good chance that your repair will be free. Repairs can be undertaken at home or work.
